Eric De Visscher

I'm a music and museum professional combining research with project development and management.

Former positions include artistic director of IRCAM (Centre Pompidou) and director of Musée de la Musique (Philharmonie de Paris) and I have worked internationally with many cultural institutions.

My interests aim at bridging gaps between sound, music and the other arts, through curating, exhibiting, publishing and consulting work.

Research & Education.

Research:

My present research focuses on the presence of sound and music in museums, as the result of the evolution of art towards greater interdisciplinarity and the current changes taking place among museums in favour of more public-oriented activities. The V&A’s long-standing involvement with music (through collections, exhibitions and events) acts as a case-study for this research. The research project, currently supported by the Andrew W.Mellon Foundation through a VARI Professorship, has received a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions Seal of Excellence from the European Union.
Recent publications and participations to conferences and seminars in Essen, Edinburgh, London and Lyon, as well as public events within the V&A, are among the outreach activities of this research.
